Grrl Talk

Kids really do say the darndest things.

My friend Lucy related this story to me on our recent trip to the zoo with our kids.

Lucy's family was getting ready for Christmas eve service at church and they were trying to convince the 4YO to wear a tie like his older brother. Lucy's husband told him that Baby Jesus would really like it if he wore a tie. The 4YO responded "Well, Baby Jesus isn't here now, is he?"

Either way, I'm a little concerned.

Today's mail yielded the usual plethora of crap, but this time there was an interesting twist. Two pieces of mail, both addressed to my husband, gave me pause to wonder. On the one hand, there's the large envelope resplendent with a full-color photo of a buxom young lady and emblazoned with the words "You deserve a SEXY blonde!" (from the mailing list he "accidentally" got on when he was browsing the Internet one evening). On the other hand, there's the "Country Curtains" catalog addressed to him.

I think I need to call my therapist...

 Happy New Year!

Wow! It's 2008 already. I remember being a kid and thinking I'd turn 30 in the year 2000 and that it was soooo far away. Time's fun when you're having flies.

I hope you all had a good Christmas (or whatever holiday you choose to celebrate). I got everything I asked for: an iPod, a pocketbook (a/k/a "purse" for you non-Southern folk), Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix and POTC At World's End. I got plenty of other stuff, too, like Starbucks gift cards, pajamas, more Starbucks cards - my mother-in-law is always good to me at Christmas. Santa was good to Grover and Ollie (as were the grandparents, natch). Our living room looks like Toys R Us threw up.

I've spent the last week loading my CD collection into iTunes. I spent so much time on the computer, I think my brain is in the shared custody of Apple and Microsoft. There are over 900 songs on my iPod now, which seems like a huge number to me but it's not even half full. Not to mention that this device is smaller than a credit card. Aaaah, technology.

Now that the holidays are over, it's back to the routine. But at least my routine will now have a soundtrack.

It's time once again for the best Christmas song ever!
