Grrl Talk

Otherwise I'd need a REALLY big truck.

I drove past a sign today that made me go "hmmmm".

"XYZ Pool & Spa Repair (We Come to You)"

Sigh...

 American Music Awards

Did you watch these last night? I usually don't subject myself to award shows but I was doing the crossword puzzle while my husband flipped back and forth between the AMAs, National Treasure and the demolition of the Buffalo Bills by the New England Patriots. I have but three questions:

1) Is it just me or is Duran Duran's Simon LeBon starting to look like Captain Kangaroo? Between the jowls he's acquired in his advanced maturity and the pork chop sideburns, he looks like he's ready for a tv show with Mr. Green Jeans.

2) Exactly how OLD is Tony Hawk and why was he at a music award show?

and finally...
3) What in God's name were they thinking when they decided to have country band Sugarland sing Beyonce's "Irreplaceable"??? What whiz kid was in that planning meeting going "well, it worked for Bon Jovi"?

Technically, I have four questions but this last one is unrelated to the AMAs. And it's more of a rhetorical question anyway. One of the viewing choices last night, as I mentioned, was National Treasure. We own this movie on DVD. So why does my husband endure commercials and a crappy picture when he could put the DVD in and watch the movie in its widescreen, digitally enhanced glory? Like I said, rhetorical question, don't expect an answer. (Love you, dear!)

The good, the bad, and the awesome.

The good news from last night's Hurricanes game is that they won, keeping them firmly perched atop the Southeast division standings and second in the Eastern Conference. The bad news is that Canes forward Erik Cole left the ice on a stretcher after he slid headfirst into Panthers goalie Tomas Vokoun's kneepads. Cole had a serious neck injury at the end of the 2006 regular season that kept him out for 23 games. He returned for the last two games of the Stanley Cup finals which, of course, the Canes won. Cole has been cleared to fly to Tampa with the team this morning so hopefully the stretcher was a bit of overkill due to his past injury.

On another positive note, former Hurricanes captain Ron Francis was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame last night. He was part of a truly amazing, all-star class if ever there was one.

 This one's for BA.

It finally got cold here this week, thank goodness. Ever since I was pregnant with my girls, my internal thermostat has apparently been set around 102 instead of 98.6. I haven't worn a sweater in six years. I was actually looking forward to moving to Minnesota in the hopes that I'd be comfortable again. (No luck, my husband got another job here but he's happier and less stressed so I can deal.) Anyway, the point is that yesterday morning it was 39 and I went out in jeans and a short sleeve shirt. And it felt good!
