Grrl Talk

 Too many pirate movies.

Besides the proliferation of super powers in my house, I now have two children trying to "slay the dog". Their words, not mine. I was thinking of taking them to see POTC At World's End this week, having already seen it and deemed it okay for them to see, but perhaps I'll wait on that.

 Super powers

I think Ollie has been watching "The Incredibles" too much lately. My first clue is that she constantly refers to herself as "Dash" and to Grover as "Violet". The real giveaway, however, is this: we were in a restaurant bathroom the other night and when the automatic toilet in mine & Ollie's stall flushed, Ollie looked at me and with all seriousness said "Violet did that with her powers".

 The best laid plans...

Is it just me that develops all these great plans to get things accomplished over 3-day weekends that never come to fruition? The plans, not the weekends. I had this delusion that we could get stuff cleaned up around the house and improvements done to the yard over the Memorial Day weekend. Yeah, didn't happen. I did list a ton of stuff on Ebay to try to get rid of stuff and make some money, but that's as far as I got. My house is still a pigsty. In a vain attempt to keep order, I banned all toys from the first floor. Funny, I still look around and what do I see? Yep, toys. Well, actually, it's not toys but games which means... a thousand little game pieces. Luckily, The Fuzzbucket eats all things small and plastic, so those should be gone in a matter of time. Although I'm guessing that kind of diet can't be good for her.

 Sports & hobbies

Oh yeah, the other sport I want to take up is archery. I got to try it at a Girl Scout Leader event and I LOVED IT!!! Even better - I was actually good at it.

From golf to technology in a single blog post!

Last weekend, Grover and Ollie went to stay with the grandparents. Their absence afforded my husband and I the opportunity to do things we don't normally get to do, like eat at restaurants that DON'T give out crayons and go to movies that are NOT animated rated "G". We ate at 518 West, one of my favorite places in Raleigh, and saw Spiderman 3. We also played golf, which I haven't done in about a hundred years. I used to be pretty good but 7 or 8 years without playing certainly did me no favors. I had fun anyway. My husband managed not to wound or otherwise kill any small furry animals on the course, always a plus. (While at a business conference many years ago, my husband's ball hit a rabbit and BA put it out of its misery while another co-worker looked on in horror and I secretly wished it was the co-worker's neck that was being broken.) Anyway, I had enough fun to want to go again but I've got to get decent clubs first. I don't have a lot of money to spend so I'm scouting Ebay. Any recommendations on brands or features would be much appreciated.

Speaking of recommendations, I went with a digital picture frame for my husband's birthday. It holds up to 53 3-megapixel or 25 5-megapixel images in its built-in 64MB memory (& hundreds more with a media card or memory stick) and displays a single picture or contnuous slideshow on a high definition LCD screen. It is way cool (Fishmonger, I know what you mean about the digital camera) and was a big hit. The best part is that my husband doesn't have the time to set it up, so I get to do it. Sweet!
