Grrl Talk

 And speaking of fashion...

I didn't watch the halftime show, but the controversy this year is apparently about Prince's use of a guitar as phallus. I watched the video of it and can't say that I was all that surprised. Hello, it is Prince - does anyone remember "Darling Nikki"??? And male guitarists have used their instruments as extensions of their "manhood" for years. Why is this an issue? If anything, I was offended by the orange and green leisure suit Prince was wearing. I mean, what was that about?

 Sex vs. Fashion

Married men, you don't need me to tell you this but a recent study found that women would give up sex for clothes. According to a poll of 1000 women (hardly a representative sample, but that's beside the point) conducted by Unilever (why, I'm still not sure), the average woman would gladly give up sex for 15 months in exchange for a closet full of new clothes. Would I do that? For a closet full of crap from Wal-Mart, K-Mart or Sears - hell, no. Slightly better stuff from Target, Kohl's, or JC Penney - not likely. Off-label brands from Belk, Dillard's or Macy's - doubtful. Designer duds from Nordstrom, Sak's or Neiman-Marcus - now we're talking. Lucky for my husband, this is all hypothetical!

And what kind of birds were they?

Ollie just emerged from the bathroom carrying her jeans and a beer bottle. This is not good. Beer and no pants are generally not a good combination, at least judging from my past experience but that's another post for another time (like... never). Fortunately, I know that the beer bottle is empty - she was on her way to deposit it in the recycle bin and had to make a pit stop - but I'm still puzzled as to why she chose to carry her jeans out instead of put them back on when she's quite capable of dressing herself. I tried to ask her but in the typical logic-defying manner of 3YO's, she answered "the birds did it". Okaaayyyy.....

Say Good-Bye to another bit o' nostalgia.

Another piece of Americana has fallen victim to "progress". The Wonder Spot in Lake Delton, WI is a 'Gravity Vortex' Attraction. It's a mysterious cabin where normal gravitational force appears to be absent. I always wanted to visit one of these and apparently should have done it when I lived up there because this one is soon to be history. I guess the town leaders didn't feel this little attraction was "touristy" enough so they're going to get rid of it and build a road between Lake Delton and Wisconsin Dells so people can more easily access the REAL tourist traps.
