 Snow Day!

What's that? A flake? Yes, ladies and gentlemen, due to about a quarter inch of snow in the Triangle, school was cancelled. YESSSSSS!!!! I love living in the South. The only drawback was having to be up at 6 a.m. anyway to wait for them to make it official. (Thus explains the darkness in the pictures...)

The girls, of course, were ecstatic and were out playing in it as soon as they got up. Which, as you can see, was sometime around 6. That's Ollie in her puffy coat and Nemo pajamas trying to get Wondermutt to go play in the snow with her. We had a leisurely breakfast of hot cocoa and french toast sticks and the girls went out again to play. Of course, by that time, the snow had switched over to sleet, then freezing rain, then regular rain so they were soaking wet when they came in. I'm sure we'll be back to normal tomorrow, but there's rumor of another system coming through Sunday. Can't wait!

 Hey, check this out!

This is the changeover in the RBC center from the basketball court to the hockey rink. They have to do it quickly when N.C. State and the Carolina Hurricanes play on the same day. They can do it in under an hour and a half. Impressive.

 F***ing Squirrels

Well, I thought I had the bird feeder safe from those mangy little beasts but, as usual, I thought wrong. Now that they can't climb the pole on which said bird feeder sits, the f***ing squirrels climb up the birdbath which sits about 3 feet away, perch themselves precariously on its edge and take a flying leap to land on the feeder. This, of course, makes the feeder swing back and forth, sending crushed sunflower and nyjer seeds cascading downward onto the ground. I seriously entertained the idea of rigging up some electrical "stimulation" system but then I read the story of the guy in Germany who electrocuted himself trying to rid his yard of moles. Now those, Wondermutt will go after. She proudly leaves their dead carcasses on our deck. Peace offerings, I suppose. Squirrels, on the other hand, can attack at will and she'll just lay there soaking up the sunshine. Guess it's up to my husband and his air rifle. Sigh...

 Ollie's latest beautification project

Ollie had surgery yesterday to put tubes in her ears because of her recurring ear infections. Surgery time: 10 minutes, Recovery time: even less. We left the surgery center at 8 a.m. and she was at home bouncing off the walls by 10. The nurses gave Ollie a number of stickers since she was a "star patient" and here you can see what she did with them.

I don't know when she did it but I noticed this morning when I sat down on the toilet (don't worry, I finished before I got the camera and took the picture).
