My husband and I picked up two bottles of wine on our trip with the intention of sharing a romantic moment or two at the B&B. Unfortunately, climbing mountains all day shot that all to hell. We were too damn tired to do anything by the time we got back to the room. So we brought the wine back with us to enjoy at home. One of our selections was Vampire wine. Okay, it was my selection and it was made solely on the basis of the label.


C'mon, you gotta admit it looks cool. Well, we opened it tonight and it was somewhat of a disappointment. It wasn't as full-bodied as I had hoped (pun intended) and tasted a bit too much like vinegar. Oh well, the red synthetic cork with the Vampire logo makes for a colorful addition to our cork collection. And there is a mildly interesting website for the product: www.vampire.com. Maybe the vodka is better.

My husband went out this morning and got Grover her own rake (it has an adjustable handle to make it shorter than the average rake). Grover asked for one because she wants to rake leaves into a pile and then jump in them. The two of them are outside right now. My husband is helping her out by using the leafblower and she is running through the blowing leaves, yelling with delight. Aaah, the joys of being young.

Why am I talking like Yoda? No idea. I got an email from SanDee asking where I was and if I had forgotten my devoted readers, so I feel a little like the Jedi master, I guess.

The husband and I spent a glorious four days in the mountains of NC to celebrate our wedding anniversary. Not that I don't adore my children, but it was so nice to have time for just the two of us. It was the first time in 6 years we have had more than one night alone together. We stayed at a marvelous B&B in beautiful Valle Crucis, NC called The Baird House. The whole experience was heavenly - lush accomodations, scrumptious food, gorgeous fall color. I think we're going to make it an annual trip. If you're looking for a relaxing getaway, I highly recommend it!

Naturally, as soon as we got home I came down with a cold. But I'm getting over it now and feel much better. But between the vacation and sick days, my house looks like a tornado hit. Technically, I guess it would be two tornadoes...

Tragedy struck in the New England town of New Milford, CT on Sunday when a beer keg exploded after being tossed into a burning barrel. The explosion sent shrapnel flying, killing a 22-year-old and wounding several others. Neighbors report hearing a loud explosion followed by screaming. One neighbor commented on the sad situation, saying "The kids, I'm sure, were trying to have a good time. I can't imagine what would have possessed someone to throw a beer keg ... into the fire."

Hmmm, could it be drunken stupidity, perhaps? Let's just hope the unfortunate victim wasn't the designated driver.
