Grrl Talk

 And speaking of parenting...

One of the ads at the top of my blog page piqued my interest, so I checked it out. It was a quiz to see what kind of mom you are. Of course it was a thinly veiled advertising gimmick, but it was entertaining nonetheless. Here are my results:

Are You a Slacker Mom?

Your quiz results make you a Zen Mom.

How do you do it? Even when explosions are all around, you are able to take a deep cleansing breath and chant your mantra "this too shall pass." You are a calming influence on your kids in a hectic world.

Yeah, right.

 Congratulations are in order.

The Fishmonger and (more importantly) his wife welcomed their baby boy into the world yesterday morning. Fish-boy is such a technogeek that he's already uploaded pictures to his Flickr account. My husband would never have done that, mostly because he's just not into computers, but more specifically because I banned all forms of photography from the labor & delivery room. I must admit that I got a little teary-eyed looking at the pictures, thinking I'll never have another sweet little bundle of joy like that. That passed as soon as Grover and Ollie came screaming down the stairs, followed by The Idiot barking her fool head off. Yeah, I need another baby/kid like I need a hole in my head.

Anyway, congrats Fishmonger. I miss you guys!

 Skin cancer update

Went to the dermatologist for a full-body skin check today - joy unconfined. He found a couple more moles he thought were fine but needed to be removed "just in case". Yeah, I've heard THAT story before. The good news is that the biopsy of the skin he took off my nose shows that he got all the cancer. The better news is that the swelling in and around my nose has gone down so I no longer look like the victim of an errant cross check (I love hockey, but not that much). The skin is still red around the incision but I can cover that up with makeup and it's hardly noticeable. Maybe it won't take a whole year to get back to normal.

For a good time, don't call me.

Last night, my excitement consisted of steam cleaning dog poop off the carpet (The Idiot did it again yesterday - I see a vet visit in her future...) while MF gave all 4 young'uns a bath. Luckily, the tub in the master bathroom is the size of a small swimming pool. Too bad that I never get to use it.

For clarification purposes, the 4 young'uns are Grover, Ollie and MF's two girls, Beaker and Boo. Grover and Beaker went to daycare/preschool together and are the best of friends (when they're not fighting about what game to play or which movie to watch).

 Shady dealings at the dealership

I brought the Mom Taxi to the Toyota dealership because the inspection was due last month and because there are some light bulbs in the center console that are burned out. My appointment was for 10:13 a.m. (why they get that specific, I still don't know). It's 1:05 p.m. and we're still here. Yes, we. Grover and Ollie are with me and have been out of entertainment options for about half an hour now. I just went to ask how much longer it would take and the oh-so-helpful dude behind the counter said "they're just doing the inspection now". Granted, there were about a million people in the waiting room when we arrived so I'm sure they're busy but give me a break! I suspect that they don't even start working on your car until you've asked about the wait at least once. Normally, it takes about 15 minutes to do an inspection and how long does it take to change a few light bulbs? Sadly, the answer (so far) is about 2 hours.

I did try to get the inspection done somewhere other than the dealership but the first two places I went were closed and the person who does the inspections at the third was on vacation. At least here they have computer games for the kids and internet access for me. Sigh...
