While listening to radio coverage of the race today, I heard a commercial for a new men's fragrance: Daytona 500 cologne for men.

So it smells like what - gasoline, axle grease and burnt rubber?

The following is an actual conversation between me & Ollie about 15 minutes ago.

Ollie (crying): I want a bottle.

Me: What do you mean, you want a bottle? You're not a baby!

Ollie (still crying): I want a bottle!

Me: Do you want something to drink? Is that what you mean?

Ollie (sniffling): Uh huh.

Me: Okay, you can have milk, juice, water or Kool-Aid.

Ollie (crying again): NO!!!

Me: Sorry, that's all we have. What'll it be - milk, juice, water or Kool-Aid?

Ollie (sniffling again): I want a beer.



I'm not making this up, I swear.

A restaurant in Italy was fined for displaying live lobsters on ice to attract patrons. According to the high court, the display was "a form of abuse dooming the crustaceans to a slow death by suffocation". (Yeah, because a quick death by boiling hot water and steam is much more humane.)

Italy has some pretty tough animal cruelty laws - goldfish bowls are banned in Rome because they are "cruel" and dog owners in Turin are required to walk their dogs at least three times a day or face a fine. (Wonder how they enforce that...)

A house fire in Wolfeboro, NH started when the family dog jumped up against the stove to get leftovers from lunch and accidentally turned on one of the burners. (It was an old gas stove apparently.) Sounds like something my idiot dog would do. Thank goodness we've got a newer model that has the knobs on top instead of the front.

Just a smattering of the musings that have wandered about in my brain today (most of which while I was in the car... obviously):

1. Why is it so hard for people to turn their headlights on while driving in the rain?

2. How much do the people that come up with car names get paid?

3. Does it cost more to cremate fat people?

4. How boring does your life have to be to really be interested in Tom Cruise & Katie Holmes's baby (which I suspect is an alien) or whether Britney Spears is pregnant again?

5. If I just kept driving on I-40, how long would it take me to reach Los Angeles?

6. I can't believe they created a song as part of the plot of this movie [Uptown Girls] and then put it on the soundtrack.
