Grrl Talk

 Chop the Mop update

Well, Mike C got his long locks shaved last Thursday (and lost the playoff beard as well) and in the process raised $15,000 for the Jimmy V Junior Classic. He went from (to paraphrase the News & Observer) looking like Grizzly Adams to G.I. Joe in about half an hour. I couldn't go because we had Vacation Bible School last night and I figured that blowing off Jesus to go see a hockey player get his hair cut might not win me any points in the long run. My friend, however, had no such obligation and was there amid the chaos. She said it was great. There were even a few of the kids from Duke and UNC hospitals there to participate. I wish I could volunteer with her for the Junior Classic but it takes place on Ollie's birthday. Alas, ogling professional athletes and soap opera stars is not a good reason to miss my own child's birthday!

 How sweet it is!

Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina... with the STANLEY CUP!!! I am still so excited about the Hurricanes' win that I can hardly find the words to express myself.

I will, however, remind you of my Chop the Mop post and update it by saying that the ceremonial chopping will occur tomorrow, June 22, at 6:00 p.m. at Generations Salon and Spa in the Brierdale Shopping Center in Raleigh (in case you wish to attend the event).

Mike's goal is $20,000. Show your support for Mike, not only for his unique hair style but for his commitment to the kids of the Triangle. Make a donation today by selecting from the choices below. You can make a selection and check out using your credit card. This fund-raiser will only be in effect for as long as the Canes are playing, plus 10 days.

Please consider making a $10 (or more) donation in honor of Mike C. to go to the V Foundation, specifically children's cancer research and Duke Children's Hospital. You can donate HERE or you can mail a check payable to JVCGCJR to:

Not as family-friendly as the previous post.

Okay, so this is an about-face from the corny jokes, but I have to post it because I laughed out loud when I read it.

From Overheard in New York:

Old Chinese lady: Ex-see-cus-see me.
Old Chinese lady: Ex-see-cus-see me!
Gangsta: Man, what are you excusing me about? Fuck you!
Old Chinese lady: Fuck me? Ok, take-a off the pant.

Stairway in silence.

Old Chinese lady: Ex-see-cus-see me!
Gangsta: Sure thing, ma'am. I'm sorry.
Chinese kid: And that's why we respect our elders.

 It's Corny Joke Friday!

Well, my bad mood has dissipated due in no small part to the corny jokes told by one of Grover's friends at dinner. I thought they were pretty good for a 7YO.

Joke #1
Q: What did one torpedo say to the other torpedo?
A: "Are you sinking what I'm sinking?"

Joke #2
Q: What did one stop sign say to the other stop sign?
A: I don't know, I can't read sign language.

Joke #3
Q: How do get a Kleenex to dance?
A: Put a little boogie in it.

 Grrrrr.....

I'm going for an ultrasound on my gall bladder this morning and something possessed me to call and make sure it was okay to bring my children. Good thing I did, because they said it wasn't okay if I didn't have someone to watch them. So now - to avoid a last minute cancellation and being charged anyway - I have to find child care. Luckily, there's a drop-in daycare place up the road and they had room so that's not a problem. But I don't understand why I can't bring Grover and Ollie. It's just an ultrasound - no radiation - and it's on my abdomen which, let's face it, they've seen before. And if I threaten them strongly enough with physical pain and loss of TV privileges, they'll be quiet during the "procedure". I don't get it. Not only is it ridiculous that they can't come but what if I hadn't called? I would have found out when I got there when it's too late to do anything about it.

Then again, I'm in a pissy mood today anyway so maybe it's just me...
